Q: Who is making this game?
Bombernauts is being programmed by me (Tyler Glaiel), arted by Sven Ruthner, and sounderated by Brandon McCartin.
Q: When does it come out?
July 31, 2015 on Steam Early Access for Mac, PC, Linux, and SteamOS
Q: Why Early Access? There are a few reasons for this, one of the main ones being that this is my first networked multiplayer game, and I want to make sure I do it right and have any server issues and network bugs ironed out before I call the game released. We've done a bit of testing on our own and with The Research Centaur, however there's a lot of unforeseen things that can happen with a networked game at launch that are hard to test for.
Q: What's the current state of the game then? All the important parts of Bombernauts are done. The gameplay, controls, art, music, sound, and design are all pretty much done and polished. It's extremely playable right now in its current state, and something I am not ashamed to put up for sale. It's firmly in a "beta" state, and probably around 80% the way to a "version 1" official release.
Q: Well what's left to add then? The UI needs an overhaul, and with that will come easier options for game customization. The level editor could use some touching up as well. There's also a walrus referee character we haven't added yet, and some story/setting related stuff to flesh out the game world a bit more. Plus some more game modes and powerups and some stuff for more flexible custom game support. We also want some more cosmetic settings for robots like hats and alternate wheels and stuff. Plus, whatever else people are wanting during its stay in early access. None of this is integral to the core experience in Bombernauts, but it is necessary to make the game feel more full.
Q: Hasn't this been in development for a while? Why is it taking so long?Online multiplayer is hard. Also it's not the only project I'm working on. Also, did I say online multiplayer is hard? Also, Dota 2 is addicting. Also it took a while to actually figure out the right art style for the game and solve some design problems and figure out what direction to take the sound and music and everything. Making games is hard. But its also pretty fun usually.
Q: How much longer to go?I'm going to officially say "About 6 Months". But it could go longer. Like I said, we're going to be taking suggestions and seeing demand for stuff while it's in early access, so if there's a lot of demand for a feature we didn't expect, it could take longer. It's also really notoriously difficult to actually estimate how long game development stuff will take. We originally thought the game would be out in 2014. Ha. haw. haw.
Q: I am a Youtuber or press, can I have an early copy or an interview?Sure, send me an email. Youtube/press copies will start going out 1-2 weeks before launch. Check the youtube permissions page for more information.
